Hi! We are Jacob and Jasmyn Wichert. We started Amateur Coffee so we could play with coffee and make art for a living. Jacob is our roastmaster, quality control guy, and overall coffee professional extraordinaire. Jasmyn is the creative force behind our business, curating the parlor experience, illustrating our coffee bags, and entertaining everyone on social media with her funny storytelling. We’re really just a couple of artists out here trying to make it in specialty coffee.
Amateur (n.) – the enthusiast who pursues their work in the spirit of love
In 2012, we were a couple of kids aged 18 + 19.We were recently engaged, had just moved into a studio apartment together, and were both working full-time in coffee while Jacob went to school to become a philosophy professor.
Jacob was becoming increasingly interested inspecialty coffee, while becoming increasingly DIS-interested in school.
“I just really wanna explore coffee!” Jacob exclaimed. “So, why don’t you drop out of school? We can totally start a coffee business!” Jasmyn pronounced.
The rest is history.
